A CHEESY STORY

In the course Film Technology and Film Editing, I learned the process of filming, including planning, scripting, directing and editing.

The homework for the course was to make a short film on a topic of my choice. My short film is about a slice of cheese that is left on a fridge by a revengeful flatmate. After a long period of time, it develops a consciousness due to mold and begins to question the universe and meaning of life.

I directed a small team of students, wrote the script and was fully responsible for post-production.

I worked on this project for about 3 weeks in total.

The preparation of the film, i.e. writing the script and creating the storyboard, took about 2 weeks.

We only had one day to shoot the movie. This took place in my kitchen. The scenes were shot with professional film equipment from the Harz University of Applied Sciences, and every shot meant preparation with sound, light and camera. Due to the time constraints, the day had to be planned precisely, including when which actors had to be there, when which scenes had to be filmed and how often there were breaks. Fortunately, there was just enough time to film everything in one day.

I then spent another week doing the post-production: The voiceover was recorded and video editing, sound editing & color correction was done. Some of the scenes even had to be re-dubbed as there were sound problems on the day of filming.

The result can be seen on YouTube (with English and German subtitles):
