SIGNS & WONDERS

In the 4th semester of my media informatics degree, I learned how to create detailed Blender 3D animations in the 3D Animation course.

I chose a Minecraft animation with buildings I built in the background as my assignment in this course. The animation is an intro to a fictional TV series in which architecture of ancient civilizations and other archaeological findings are presented under the title “Signs & Wonders”.

I am very happy with the result as I spent a lot of time animating everything smoothly.

post production in DaVinci Resolve

I worked on this project for about 2 weeks in total.

I had already written a script and storyboard during the semester.

As such, I was able to start animating in Blender straight away. The main character is my own character from the game Minecraft, and through the jMc2Obj program I was able to export the backgrounds from Minecraft as 3D models and use them in Blender.

I used publicly available rigs for the characters included in the animation, but designed the characters myself, as well as creating walking & running cycles for them.

Each day I worked on a scene for the project, from blockout to rough motion and finally completed animation with lipsync.

In addition to animating in Blender, I also had to post process the project in DaVinci Resolve as well as record my voice as a voiceover in a recording studio.

The result can be seen on YouTube:
